The Attore family lives in a Roman suburb of respectable terraced houses: Luca (Adriano Giannini), an extremely free, free-lance journalist, creator of colourful articles he struggles to get accepted by the papers, Susi (Micaela Ramazzotti), a dancer committed to teaching overweight ladies to dance, and Lucilla, a quiet and imaginative 6-year-old girl affected by severe asthma. Plummeted into the middle of this magnificent and incomprehensible, layered, maternal and unkind Roman life is Lucilla’s Irish au pair: Mary Ann (Roisin O’Donovan) is an art history student who spends a year in Italy in the Attorre household, which turns out to be rich in licit and illicit connections, friendships and love stories.
