The Attorre family lives in a decent suburb of terraced houses. Luca (Adriano Giannini) is a “very free” freelance journalist specialized in color pieces that he can barely sell to the newspapers. Susi (Micaela Ramazzotti) is a dancer that makes a living by giving lessons to overweight ladies. Lucilla is the six-year-old quiet and imaginative girl, suffering from severe bronchial asthma. The story takes place in a magnificent and yet mysterious Rome. A multi-layered, maternal and at times unkind city where Mary Ann (Roisin O'Donovan), an Irish art history student, arrives to start a new job as an au pair to the little Lucilla. One year in Italy at the Attorre family home will prove to be full of legitimate and forbidden ties, concerning both friendship and love.
